The Beatles' "Love Me Do" was released 50 years ago - on October 5, 1962.
As NME notes: "Love Me Do" was recorded on September 4 of that year and would eventually reach the number 17 spot on the British charts. It wasn’t an instant hit, though, taking three months to reach its peak in the last week of December.
With the release of the single, The Beatles (made up of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison) set a precedent for themselves, implementing a strict rule that all the band's music would be written by the group.
"The fashion at the time was not for big groups to write their own material, so the Beatles were being quite radical in that sense by issuing a single that had written themselves," was quoted as saying Hamish MacBain, assistant editor at NME.
"Love Me Do" was The Beatles first offering to U.K. music listeners, though most don’t think the track to be The Beatles' best work.
"In terms of songwriting, it’s pretty basic, and it’s certainly not as good as the stuff they were coming out with a few months later," claimed MacBain.
While the song was a British hit, it is isn't attributed to Beatlemania, which swept the United States the following year. By the time they broke into the U.S. markets, The Beatles had a couple of number one singles as well as a number one album.
In celebration of the milestone for the group, a restored version of the band’s 1967 "Magical Mystery Tour" film will be released, along with remastered vinyl versions of Beatle’s studio albums.
It has to be mentioned that BBC Four TV will also air a documentary about "Love Me Do," a treat for fans looking to learn more about the single's history.
Are you excited??
Happy Birthday "Love Me Do"!

"Island Life" is Grace Jones' compilation album released in December 1985, summing up the first nine years of her musical career. The album sits among Jones' best-selling works.
After the major commercial success Grace Jones achieved with her comeback album "Slave to the Rhythm" in 1985, Island Records made the decision to release a best-of compilation at the end of the same year. "Island Life" would feature songs from most of Jones' Island Records albums: "Portfolio", "Fame", "Warm Leatherette", "Nightclubbing", "Living My Life"and "Slave to the Rhythm". No tracks from "Muse" were included. Some of the songs appeared in edited forms and a remix of "Love Is the Drug" was included. No new songs were recorded for the album. "Island Life" consists only of previously released material, produced by Tom Moulton, Chris Blackwell, Alex Sadkin and Trevor Horn. American writer and journalist Glenn O'Brien wrote an essay for the record sleeve.
Australian LP release of the album came with a bonus 12" disc containing four songs: "My Jamaican Guy", "Pull Up to the Bumper", "On Your Knees" and "Warm Leatherette", and the 1986 UK cassette release included three bonus tracks: "Demolition Man", "Nipple to the Bottle" and "Grace Jones Musclemix". It has to be noted that "Island Life" received a warm commercial reception worldwide. It was a major success in the UK, reaching number 4 on the UK Albums Chart in December 1985, and New Zealand, where it topped the chart in March 1986, thus becoming the only chart-topper in Jones' entire career. CD sales of the album in the United States since 1991 have reached 112,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In April 1996 Island Records and Universal re-released the album under the name "Island Life 2". Released only in France, it featured four additional tracks: "Pars", "Feel Up" and two versions of a 1993 single "Sex Drive", intended for the "Black Marilyn" album, which remains unreleased to date. Album retains the cover picture of the original "Island Life" album, with the only difference being the yellow-coloured background.

Needless to say that Nancy Sinatra's song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" is a classic. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to claim that this song is her trademark song. But let's see the story behind this all-time classic song...
-->
"These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" is a pop song written by Lee Hazlewood and recorded by Nancy Sinatra. It was released in February 1966 and hit #1 in the United States and United Kingdom Pop charts.
It has to be noted that many cover versions of the song have been released in a range of styles: metal, pop, rock, punk rock, country, dance, and industrial. For example, Jessica Simpson made #14 in the United States in 2005 with her version based on the movie: "The Dukes of Hazzard". Geri Halliwell, Jewel, and KMFDM also released covers of the song.
Nancy Sinatra was encouraged by Lee Hazlewood to sing the song as if she were a sixteen-year-old girl giving the brush-off to a forty-year-old man. Sinatra's recording of the song was made with the help of notable Los Angeles session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew. This session included Hal Blaine on drums, Al Casey, Tommy Tedesco, and Billy Strange on guitars, Ollie Mitchell, Roy Caton and Lew McCreary on horns, Carol Kaye on electric bass, and Chuck Berghofer on double bass, providing the notable bass line.
According to Carol Kaye, Arranger Billy Strange believed in using the two basses together. Producer Lee Hazlewood asked Chuck to put a sliding run on the front of the tune. Chuck complied by playing notes about three tones apart (4-6 frets apart), but Lee stopped the take. "No Chuck, make your sliding notes closer together", and that is what you hear."
According to Al Casey: "Well, Lee and I had been friends forever, and he said: "I've got this song I'm working on, and I want the guitar to play this." And he showed me, because there's a little bit more than banging on an "E-chord", which is what most people do. There's more to it than that. He said: "I want you to do this on the song," and he sang the song and played the rhythm guitar lick, and I went: "Oh, that's cute!", little suspecting it was gonna be huge."
Other personnel as seen in the AFM (American Federation of Musicians) contracts for the session include: Billy Strange - arranger & conductor & guitar, William Miller - unknown, Don Lanier - guitar, Lou Norell - guitar, Jerry Cole - guitar, William Pitman - guitar, Don Randi - keyboard, Richard Perissi - French horn, Oliver Mitchell - trumpet, Plas Johnson - tenor sax, Nick Bonney - guitar, Donald Frost - unknown, Charles Berghofer - bass, Eddie Brackett Jr. - engineer, Emil Richards - percussion, Jim Gordon - drums, Roy V. Caton - contractor & trumpet, Lee Hazelwood - supervisor.
Nancy Sinatra would later record one of Don Lanier's songs on her 1969 album "Nancy". Nick Bonney was the guitarist for the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Donald Frost could potentially be the drummer who worked in the Hanna Barbera session musicians in the 60's, though this has yet to be confirmed.
"These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" was used on the soundtrack to Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" (1987). Sinatra also sang it on an episode of China Beach in the late-1980s. In 2005, Paul Revere & the Raiders recorded a revamped version of the song using Sinatra's original vocal track. It appeared on the CD Ride to the Wall, Vol. 2, with proceeds going to help Vietnam veterans.
In addition, the Fembots were introduced to the strains of the opening and closing notes of the song in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery".
In 2006, Pitchfork Media selected it as the 114th best song of the 1960s. Critic Tom Breihan described the song as "maybe the finest bitchy kiss-off in pop history". Goodyear Tire and Rubber used portions of the song for its 1960s' ad campaign promoting its "wide boots" tires. Nancy Sinatra unsuccessfully filed a lawsuit against Goodyear for using the song, insisting that it had violated her publicity rights.
The song is featured in "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" episode #9.24 "All In", air date May 14, 2009.
The song is mentioned by title in The Stone Roses' song "Fools Gold" ("These boots were made for walking/The Marquis de Sade don't wear no boots like these").
The song also is featured in "Are You There, Chelsea?" episode 11(Boots, March 21-2012) of first season.
Check out the lyrics of the song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" below....
You keep saying you've got something for me. something you call love, but confess. You've been a messin' where you shouldn't have been a messin' and now someone else is gettin' all your best.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
You keep lying, when you oughta be truthin' and you keep losin' when you oughta not bet. You keep samin' when you oughta be a changin'. Now what's right is right, but you ain't been right yet.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
You keep playin' where you shouldn't be a playin and you keep thinkin' that you'll never get burnt. Ha! I just found me a brand new box of matches yeah and what he knows you ain't HAD time to learn.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
Are you ready boots? Start walkin'!

Kelly became the most nominated act in the history of the Soul Train Awards this morning when he was nominated for the Album of the Year and the Ashford & Simpson songwriter’s award.
Kelly’s two nominations for the 2012 Soul Train Awards bring his career total up to 21 nominations. The singer may be the most nominated in Soul Train history but he doesn’t have the most wins. R. Kelly has taken home eight Soul Train Awards, including Best R&B Soul Album Awards in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004, during his career. Janet Jackson, who has been nominated 19 times, has the most wins at the award show with 13. Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, and Mariah Carey are the only other performers with more wins than R. Kelly.
It has to be noted that Usher, Estelle, Nas, Trey Songz, and John Legend are all up for multiple awards this year. Usher leads the nomination count with five.
According to the Canada Press, two late singers are also up for awards this year. Whitney Houston is nominated for best gospel inspirational performance and Amy Winehouse is nominated for best international performance.

Patrick Ford may be Britney Spears’ #1 fan, but he didn’t make the greatest impression on Thursday’s "The X Factor."
Before he even walked out on stage, Ford was gushing to other contestants about his obsession with the Princess of Pop, even suggesting they looked so much alike, they could be siblings - only to later add that he wanted a "nice a** girlfriend named Britney Spears."
It has to be noted that the overeager cashier was ecstatic to see Spears, stating it was "like meeting God."
Unfortunately for Ford, the feelings were not mutual.
After Ford, 20, completely butchered her hit "Circus," a bewildered and disgusted Britney, who looked like she might vomit, could only muster a simple "no."
Needless to say that Ford was disappointed as well by the way things have turned out and found difficulty in leaving the stage. After he left the stage, the crew tried to talk to him and calm him down but he was very pissed off and left with his pals.
It was undeniably an epic fail. You don't have to be an expert to judge his perfomance...What do you think?
